"What is something you were wrong about when it comes to emotions?"

Connected to feeling feelings but not listening to them: big feelings aren't bad, but how you express then can be. One of my parents is quite stoic with negative emotions and the other tends to yell when feeling angry or frustrated. There was this unspoken lesson that big emotions are bad because they are uncontrollable and excessive. So I did experience big emotions, so I did my best to shove them down. I became embarrassed of them, both the bad and the good.

Through conversations with friends and reading, I've been on the road to unlearning this lesson. Thank goodness.

I love this so much! I also had to learn how to channel big emotions into more healthy processing!

Thank you for this, Michelle. I definitely needed that reminder that feeling your feelings and acting on your feelings are two different things. Post-covid I started to feel significantly less social. I was fine with sitting in my pjs and having a video chat with my friends. But come this year, I wanted to go out more. So I made plans but as the date was approaching, my mind was looking for an excuse to cancel the meet up. If I haven't pushed myself to get out of the house, I would miss out on many amazing moments with my friends and wouldn't have met the guy I'm seeing now.
