Everything I Learned in September
More health life lessons this month combined with lessons on knowing your worth, financially and otherwise
Welcome to my monthly feature where I tell you what I am learning, in the hopes that you can learn a thing or two as well.
Resting actually improves creativity. I have been taking more breaks this year because doing all the press for two books in one year has been a lot and every time I return, work seems to be SO much easier
Have something you look forward to in your diary. Even if you have to schedule it way in advance, it makes it so much easier to get out of bed when you are looking forward to your life and your day
If you hate small talk, stop having small talk. Lead the conversations you want to have. Have conversations that you find interesting and actually be curious about the person sitting in front of you. You can learn something from anyone if you are paying attention, even if all you are learning is how not to be.
Growth Spurts with Michelle Elman is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.
There are no timelines in life. You are not behind. Here’s a quote from my book The Selfish Romantic that sums it up perfectly: ‘It just requires one match, one conversation, one date or even one moment talking to a stranger in a club to change your entire love life - in the same way it takes one break-up, one divorce, one argument, and one too many mean words to end a relationship’. I was reminded of it again because of work and it works the same way, sometimes you just need one person to say yes, one person to take a chance on you or one person to book you to get the ball rolling!
If you would like to keep reading this, subscription costs as little as £1.10/week - less than buying a card with two words in it! It not only gives you access to my monthly round-up of what I’ve been learning but also my monthly Q&As, all my book reviews and recommendations, and the first to know about any announcements and articles that are personal to me and where I want a little more privacy. We would love to welcome you into our little community- join us! xx
